Candidate for SVEA President
Catie Kruger
Hello All! I am Catie Kruger and I am a aspiring English
educator at Old Dominion University. I have served on the SVEA Board of
Directors for three years as the Underclassman Member at Large, Vice President
and President. During my time in SVEA, I have attended the NEA Student
Leadership Conference twice, the NEA Representative Assembly once, the NEA
Minority and Women Leadership Training conference, as well as numerous amazing
events at the state and local levels. Last year I served as a judge at the
Educators Rising Conference and will be returning this year. This year at Old
Dominion I also serve as the Grant Coordinator and worked hard to receive a NEA
CREATE grant for a Read Across America Event. Prior to ODU. These amazing
opportunities have been awarded to me due to SVEA and I hope to bring more
opportunities to you across the state. My goal is to be as accessible to each
of you as possible as we learn and grow together. As aspiring educators, we are
at the forefront of issues in Education and people want to hear our voice. If elected my goal is to increase the dialogue from the state level to the
local level as well as increase conversations from chapter to chapter. I would
love to talk with you and share ideas on what you need from your association
because I know that together we can make a difference. That is why I humbly ask
for your vote for re-election this March.
Hello SVEA members,
my name is Morgan Brown. I am running for the position of Vice
President. I am a senior at Old Dominion
University from the Richmond area and my major is Elementary Education. Being a
student member of the Student Virginia Education Association for the past two
years has been very rewarding and I have loved every minute of it! As a SVEA
member, I have been active on the local, state, and national levels. Currently,
I am on the SVEA Board of Directors as the Eastern Region Representative. Also,
to my credit, I have served as Treasurer of the ODU SVEA Chapter. Presently, I
am the Vice President of the ODU chapter. While at ODU, I have planned many
activities that help shape our members become the best educators as possible.
On the state level, I am the student representative on the Communication
Committee and attended Lobby Day in Richmond, VA. This past summer I was
fortunate enough to attend the Student Leadership Conference in Boston, MA. This
conference awarded me the opportunity to form relationships with not only
student members from across the country, but with VEA and NEA members. It is my
goal to continue to represent SVEA well wherever it leads me and make certain
our voices are heard.
